Hyundai has just reached one of the most important milestones in its history with the production of its 100,000,000th vehicle, which is no small feat. This achievement underscores the scale of the automaker.
It took the brand 57 years to accomplish such a feat, one that only a handful of manufacturers can boast of. Hyundai held a ceremony at its Ulsan plant in Korea to celebrate the event. This factory has been operational since 1968.
An iconic model
Unsurprisingly, it was a 100% electric model that became the 100,000,000th vehicle to roll off the production line of the Korean manufacturer. Of course, it was an IONIQ 5 SUV, a model that has been wildly successful since its debut on the market. Hyundai\'s top management also decided to personally deliver this IONIQ 5 to its new owner, making the moment even more special for them.
A prolific expansion
It took the Korean automaker 57 years to reach the 100,000,000-unit mark. What’s even more impressive is the fact that Hyundai hit the 50,000,000 milestone in 2013. This means it took just over 10 years for the automaker to produce an additional 50,000,000 vehicles. At this rate, the brand could very well reach the 200,000,000 mark within the next 20 years, if not sooner.
Looking to the future
Hyundai’s rise is far from over. In fact, the brand is more proactive than ever, especially with the construction of its global innovation center in Singapore last year. This center was specifically designed to focus on research and development in robotics and artificial intelligence. Hyundai is also set to unveil its latest mega-factory project in North America, which should further accelerate production—a great piece of news for the brand’s fans.
